A.C. Fairbanks Senator Banjo

The Senators were made in different grades. I really have no idea of the original grade. I patterned this “renovation” from a Senator on Bill Dessler's web site.

I bought the Senator with what was supposed to be a new fingerboard/fret job. Turns out that was not a professional job with string buzz, etc. A year later I sent it to Bob Smakula’s shop for restoration. Bob and his staff do very superior work. They strung it up with steel, but I’ve put nylon on it.

  • new fret job with small frets
  • reproduction inlay on neck and peghead
  • new binding on neck
  • neck reset
  • new nut

I added:

  • replacement cobra hooks/nuts from Rob Hutton
  • replacement planet tuners (four old) with old plastic
  • elite tailpiece
  • new skin

I really like these intermediate thickness pots. This is definitely a player with a great sound. 26 inch scale with 11" pot.
