Jeff: this is the first gourd banjo that I made. It was making this banjo that sparked my interest in gourd banjo making. I followed a Boucher style design. The banjo neck is made from African Mahogany and the gourd is a fairly large (12") canteen gourd. This gourd was given to me by David Hyatt; it seems very appropriate for David to own this banjo.

David: this gourd is extremely lighweight and not too thick either. In one of my workshops someone ground through the side of a similar gourd in the cleaning process. However, this is one of the better sounding gourds I have heard, very loud and punchy for a big gourd. I have added a song played on this banjo called Pretty Little Miss.
